This melodious composition is based on The folies of Spain in terms of theme and rhythms, and the arrangement was created for the Paris Conservatoire contest. While the beginning of the piece is quite slow, it has some faster parts that are more cheerful.

Marin Marais (1656-1728) was a French composer and master of the Viol. He wrote many pieces for the Viol, some trio pieces and some orchestras.
