Luigi di Ghisallo: Il Colosseo (Harmonie)

The title for this march »Il Colosseo« is an allusion to the grandiose Roman Colosseum. Its dimensions and attractiveness as well as those of numerous other amphitheaters of antiquity inspired Luigi di Ghisallo to compose a great concert march. Due to his "ancient Roman stimulus" he crafted it in the style of the Italian marcia sinfonica which occupies a special position among marches of the world.

Its first section is radiantly heroic in nature, while the trio communicates an atmosphere of bright festivity, very much like that of a triumphal procession of antiquity.
