Sebastian Lee wurde 1805 in Hamburg geboren und erhielt seine Ausbildung bei dem Romberg-Schüler Johann Nikolaus Prell. Als Solist unternahm er eine Reise über Leipzig, Kassel und Frankfurt nach Paris und debütierte 1832 mit großem Erfolg im Théâtre Italien. 1836 trat er in London auf und begab sich wieder nach Paris, um über 30 Jahre als Solocellist der Grand Opéra mitzuwirken. Er entfaltete eine rege Tätigkeit als Solist und Lehrer und veröffentlichte 1845 seine Celloschule op. 30, die bis heute bei Schott (ED 965) erhältlich ist. Seine Sammlung „First Steps in Violoncello Playing“ opus 101, kaum bekannt, enthält 50 leichte Duette in der 1. Lage. Das erste Cello ist sehr leicht spielbar, die zweite Stimme etwas anspruchsvoller, aber auch gut von Schülern ausführbar. Eine schöne Sammlung für den Anfängerunterricht, mit sehr melodischen Stücken, mit denen sich alle technischen und musikalischen Themen des Cellospiels behandeln lassen.

Sebastian Lee was born in Hamburg in 1805 and trained by the Romberg pupil Johann Nikolaus Prell. As a soloist, he undertook a journey via Leipzig, Kassel and Frankfurt to Paris and in 1832 made his successful debut at the Théâtre Italien. In 1836 he gave performances in London and then returned to Paris where he worked as a solo cellist at the Grand Opéra for more than 30 years. A soloist and teacher, he published his Cello Method Op. 30 in 1845 which is still available at Schott (ED 965).His barely known anthology 'First Steps in Violoncello Playing' opus 101 contains 50 easy duets in the first position. The first cello part is easy to play while the second part is somewhat more demanding, yet still playable by pupils. A beautiful collection for beginner's lessons, with very melodious pieces covering all technical and musical aspects of cello playing.
